ScentScout is a personal editorial project by Dibs. It exists to help beginners find real fragrances without needing perfume vocabulary. These terms describe what the site is, what it is not and what you can rely on when you use it.
ScentScout+ membership
Subscription terms effective September 7, 2026. Version 2026-09-07-immediate-v1.
$5.99 USD charged now and automatically every month until canceled. Cancel online from Account or ScentScout+. Cancellation stops future renewals and ends all Plus access immediately, including unused paid time. No refunds or credits for the current month, except where required by law.
Manage or cancel your subscriptionPayment and renewal
By subscribing, you authorize Stripe to charge your selected payment method $5.99 USD at purchase and every month until cancellation. Any applicable tax is shown before you confirm payment. There is no paid trial or minimum multi-month commitment. Your billing dates, payments and invoices are available through Manage subscription. Complimentary memberships have no subscription charge. Paid membership starts after payment is confirmed; unsuccessful payment or an expired subscription does not grant Plus access.
How to cancel
Sign in, open Account or ScentScout+, select Cancel ScentScout+, and confirm Cancel and end access now. Cancellation stops future renewals and immediately ends access to all Plus features, the Plus badge and alternate themes, even if time remains in the month you paid for. The confirmation screen explains this before you cancel. You can also cancel using Manage subscription in the Stripe billing portal. There is no cancellation fee, required survey or required phone call.
Cancel before your next billing date to prevent the next renewal. A renewal already processed is a payment for the current billing month. Cancellation does not delete your free ScentScout account or your saved data. You retain access to read or delete your private wear history through Account. Rejoining requires a new payment and starts a new subscription; unused time from a canceled membership is not restored.
Refunds and your rights
Monthly subscription fees are non-refundable and are not prorated or credited for unused days, partial months or a change of mind, except where required by law. Cancellation does not automatically reverse a payment. This policy does not limit any mandatory cancellation, withdrawal, refund or other consumer rights, including rights relating to an unauthorized or incorrect charge or a service that was not supplied as required by applicable law. Where those rights apply, they take priority over these terms.
If an earlier checkout offered access through the end of the paid period after cancellation, those original purchase terms continue to apply to that subscription. The cancellation screen will show the applicable access end date. These new terms do not retroactively remove a previously promised paid period.
Included features and limitations
The membership includes Wear Lab, up to five Personal Scent Hunter searches and Scent Twins. Wear Lab includes owned-bottle daily picks, a private wear journal, guided comparisons and Buy, Sample or Skip advice informed by your recorded experience. It supports up to 2,000 wear entries, 100 experiments and three active experiments. Personal experiments describe a small set of your own observations; they do not prove causes or guarantee future performance. Daily picks use described conditions without a live forecast. Purchase advice also uses editorial descriptions and saved feedback. Hunter checks supported US retailer listings daily for our current catalog, with in-app results; it does not guarantee a match, inventory, the lowest price or a price drop. Matches require enough voluntary overlapping fragrance ratings. Your ScentScout+ badge is publicly visible on your profile, reviews and replies.
What ScentScout is
AI-assisted discovery across our curated fragrance catalog. Your quiz preferences and saved feedback shape a shortlist. You choose AI matching or Classic matching before the quiz. With AI selected, AI compares those fragrances and returns their recommendation order. Classic uses our fit order without an AI request. Results displays the picks after that response has been checked. The separate Base fit score uses published preference weights, documented on the About page. Catalog entries matching your selected avoid categories are excluded before ranking. If AI is unavailable, cannot be validated or reaches a usage limit, Results clearly labels its standard order as Classic ranking.
Only your fixed choice quiz answers and bounded catalog facts are sent to Lovable AI to decide that ordering. Candidates use opaque position tokens rather than product names, brands or catalog IDs. Your optional free text note, email, account ID, saved Passport, Wardrobe history and raw Taste Tuning signals or numeric deltas are never sent. Local Taste Tuning can still affect which eligible candidates reach the shortlist before the request is built. The model returns only an ordering of the opaque tokens: every explanation you read is written locally from catalog data. Ranking labeled Classic ranking means an AI ranking was not used. The AI request may have been skipped or may have failed to finish successfully; the published scorer supplies the displayed order in either case.
Editorial disclaimer
Catalog notes, longevity, projection, price bands, descriptions, tags and matching attributes are editorial approximations. They are not independently verified laboratory measurements or live inventory. Product sources are labeled as brand, retailer or fragrance reference on each fragrance page. The original official product-page checks remain labeled separately. Two legacy records have no confirmed product source. Notes can be incomplete and sources can disagree. Availability, packaging and price change constantly. Always confirm the current product details with the retailer before purchase.
Retailer links
Retailer search buttons and direct shopping offers on this site are non-affiliate links. ScentScout currently earns no commission from any retailer and no retailer pays for placement. Ranking is decided by the scorer and AI ordering described in About, never by commercial terms. If affiliate links are added later, they will be clearly labeled on the page and will never affect which fragrances appear or where they rank.
Live US price scout
The optional Live US price scout on /scout queries a third-party US shopping index only after you press Check live prices. The only field the browser sends is the selected catalog fragrance ID. Results cover only the current shopping result set for that variant. This is not the whole web and not a guarantee of the cheapest price. Samples, decants, gift sets, testers and dupes are filtered out. Only shipping the retailer states explicitly is included in the delivered total. Tax is excluded. Seller authenticity is not verified. Confirm the final total, stock and delivery at checkout.
Profiles and reviews
Usernames are unique regardless of capitalization. Use a name and photo you have the right to use and do not impersonate another person. Your profile details and published website review are public. Keep reviews about your own experience with ScentScout, and leave out private information, harassment and spam. Each account can publish one review and edit or delete it from the Reviews page. Members can like reviews and reply to them. Keep replies respectful too. Profanity and hateful language are filtered and moderators can remove reviews and replies. Ratings reflect member opinions.
Our name and trademark
ScentScout™ is the brand used for this platform.
Other product names and trademarks belong to their respective owners. Their appearance in the catalog does not imply affiliation with or endorsement of ScentScout.
Your responsibilities
Use ScentScout for personal fragrance discovery. Do not attempt to abuse the site, probe for vulnerabilities, scrape the catalog for a competing commercial product or submit unlawful, hateful or spam content through the anonymous feedback or missing fragrance forms. If you spot something wrong, please use the on-page correction and request forms so future updates can fix it.
Fragrance perception is personal. Even a well-scored match may not be the right scent for you in practice. Try before you commit whenever possible.
No warranty
ScentScout is provided as-is for informational purposes. To the maximum extent allowed by law, ScentScout and Dibs make no warranties about the accuracy, completeness or fitness for a particular purpose of the catalog data, matches, live price lookups or any linked retailer offer. Use of the site is at your own risk.
Changes
These terms may be updated as the site evolves. Changes will be dated here. Material changes to paid subscription terms or pricing require notice before taking effect and any consent required by law. Posting an update here alone does not change a previously purchased entitlement or waive your existing rights.
